To make your milk soap first we need to milk the goat. This is June, she will be 2 in June 2026. She is Alpine and Lamacha. Good milk breeds.
Astrid is her daughter. She will be 1 in April 2026. She is Alpine, Lamacha and boar.
Newest addition is Masa. He is maybe 5. He is also LaMacha, see his small ears?
with this group we hope to have more milk in a few months.

They love to play on tires, (you can see in the back), a good pat and some treats.

Masa, he likes to show you he is the big guy. On hind legs he is over 6 feet tall!
At Desert Bells Soaps, our mission is to make good soap with naturally and locally ingredients. Our goat milk comes from our goats. The honey is from bees that were wild in an abandoned trailer, also on our place.
Everything is made here in Lovington, NM. Small batches and by hand. The lotion is not a mix, we make each batch here. Every soap is from here and cures for 6 weeks.

Soaps are for cleansing the skin. The combination of oils and butters we use with goat milk are all intended to help dry skin. Living in New Mexico, it is a dry climate with not much rain yearly. The wind and heat can chap your skin in a short time. Skin can feel raw and be painful. Some cases you can itch so bad you can get scabs.
Lotion Bars: These are for the people who do not like the feel of lotion on the hands. With there not being any water, preservatives are not needed or added. Just oils and butter, maybe a fragrance. They last a long time, just keep them out of the heat or out of your car during the summer. They will melt.
Lotions: Our lotion is a special made recipe. The combination of oils is to help relieve dry skin; the benefits of the oils are a bonus. Water is added and to keep bacteria or molds from growing we do add a wide spectrum preservative. Formaldehyde free. Beeswax is also added into the lotions to help bring moisture to your skin and create a barrier of protection. Beeswax is a humectant.
Chap Sticks: Coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax are the base.
Years ago, when our youngest son was around 2 years old, we found out he was allergic to cow milk. My mom got us a milk goat, and we learned how to care for and milk a dairy goat. We had a surplus of milk. In the back of one of the how-to goat books, it talked about making soaps. I learned from the book and started with no special tools or equipment. I did not even have an immersion bender! I just stood there for a long time until everything came together. It is much faster with the blender. Such a time saver! As I learned how to make soaps, I gave them as gifts. Friends and family wanted to purchase more soaps they liked them so much. Fun skill and hobby become a business.
Now you can watch videos of other soap makers. Information is everywhere with the internet. There are so many great crafters out there. Different techniques, colors, fragrances, essential oils, and ingredients you can use and infuse to create some wonderful works of body care. I encourage you to learn a new skill. It does not need to be soap making. I also enjoy gardening, canning, baking, grilling, and quilting. It is such a joy to create things and work with your hands.
